St Pancras Sculpture

In London and passing through St Pancras station, I was struck by the relief sculpture at the base of the (now) famous statue ‘The Meeting Place’ by Paul Day.  Having been put off by the out-sized work of art I had not previously looked at the base which was added in 2008.  It is a relief frieze featuring different images from London train and tube history.

I am not a fan of the main statue, above, but the frieze was fascinating and worth spending time examining.  Apparently, this work also has its critics because one image showed a person falling into the path of a train.  The panel was removed and replaced with a more acceptable image.
